Trecastagni is one of the oldest villages upon the Etna, whose  name, according to traditions, goes  back  to the three holy Patrons (Alfio, Cirino and Filadelfo) called "tres  casti agni", the “three chaste lambs”.

Indeed, old Latin and curial books  recite “Tres castaneae”, that may be literally translated in “three brown trees”. Though, village’s name might probably find origin in the existence  of three large  brown  trees, whose  site  the memory is lost.
The aboriginal inhabited centre it has developed for effect of the reconstruction after the earthquake of the 1693, and it is rich of architectural testimonies. Trecastagni  today  is  holiday  centre.
The economy of Trecastagni is mostly founded on cultivation of olives, fruits, winegrapes. Handcraft lava stone tools are artisans well appreciated works.
